Stretch for warming up Hamstrings
Here is a common stretch for the hamstring muscles at the back of the upper thighs. The hamstring stretch warms up the hamstrings, erector spinae and the gluteal muscles. This stretch should be completed if you are walking, running or any cardio that requires weight bearing. This stretch is also important for warming up before weight training for the legs. Be careful not to overstretch the hamstring muscles. Overstretching can put too much stress on the back of the knee.
How to perform the Hamstring Stretch* Stand with your knees slightly bent. Bend forward with the head up, and slowly reach towards the toes. Just reach as far as is comfortable for you without pulling too much. If you reach your toes easily then straighten the legs slowly until you feel the stretch in the back of the legs, at this point stop and hold this stretch for a count of 20 seconds.
* You should always perform a stretch under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Remember it's much safer to under stretch than to overstretch. Never overstretch a muscle during a warm up. If you feel pain or discomfort at any stage during a stretch then stop the stretch immediately!
